Audi has just unveiled the Crosslane Coupe concept during the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
Designed to previewing the future design of the upcoming Q2, the concept is 4,210 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,510 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,560 mm. It is based on Wolkswagen's new MQB modular platform and could share many components with both the new A2 and the second-generation Skoda Yeti.
The crossover also features breakthrough 'Ultra' chassis technology with a spaceframe which combines carbon-fiber, glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) and aluminium to reduce weight and improve stiffness. The concept has an unladen weight of just over 1,390 kg (3,064 lbs).
According to the German carmaker, the Crosslane is basically a plug-in hybrid concept with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter TFSI engine and two electric motors which help the car to burn just 1.1-liter of fuel per 100 km (255 mpg UK / 213.8 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of only 26 g/km.
The total output developed by the powertrain is 177 hp, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds in hybrid mode, 9.8 seconds in all electric mode and hit a top speed of 182 km/h. The 17.4 kWh lithium-ion battery reportedly offers a range of 130 km (80 miles).
