The first official images of the 2013 Volkswagen Golf VII GTI concept form have recently hit the web.

Scheduled to hit the market next spring, the concept features a honeycomb radiator grille with a red line, along with LED taillights and twin chrome exhaust pipes. Compared to the standard Golf VII, the GTI version has been lowered by 15 mm and has red brake calipers as well as 17- or 18-inch Brooklyn alloy wheels.

The interior comes with a special instrument cluster with a color display and chronograph-style instruments, a three-spoke flattened steering wheel, aluminum pedals and red ambient lightning.

Motivation will be provided by a 2.0-liter TFSI turbo engine with 220 hp, but an optional performance package will add 10 more hp. It has a peak torque of 350 Nm and promises to provide a fuel consumption of 6.6-liter per 100 km (35.6 mpg US or 42.8 mpg UK). The new Golf VII GTI can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 246 km/h.
