Mitsubishi has just announced plans to present the global debut of the 2013 Outlander PHEV at the 2012 Paris Motor Show on September 27.
According to the Japanese carmaker, the Outlander PHEV is the world's first plug-in hybrid SUV offering "the environmental performance of an electric vehicle (EV), the cruising range of a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, and the on- and off-road performance of an SUV".
Under the hood, the crossover features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, a high-capacity 12 kWh lithium-ion drive battery and two electric motors (one on each axle) which develop 82 hp and 195 Nm of torque. This allows the car to travel approximately 55 km on electricity alone and have a total range of 800 km. In terms of efficiency, the model returns a combined fuel consumption of 61 km/liter.
The vehicle offers three separate driving modes:

The vehicle offers three separate driving modes:
- Pure (electric-only)
- Series (electric motors running with the petrol engine recharging the batteries)
- Parallel (electric motors and petrol engine working together to provide motivation)
The Outlander PHEV will be launch in Japan in early 2013. Then it will be offered in Europe, North America and other international markets.
