GM has recently announced a recall of 249,260 SUVs due to a potential electrical system issue that could result in a fire hazard.
The recall covers the 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, Saab 9-7X, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and the GMC Envoy XL. The vehicles affected include only those originally sold or now registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and D.C.
In its recalls summary of the problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said: "Fluid may enter the driver's door module, causing corrosion that could result in a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or become inoperative. The short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing odor, smoke or a fire".
The North American carmaker claims that it is not aware of any incidents related to this problem and the company is working on a fix. However, a notification schedule has not been determined yet.
