North American carmaker Chevrolet has recently revealed the Trax, ahead of its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.

Based on the Buick Encore and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, the compact crossover measures 4,248 mm long, 1,776 mm wide and a wheelbase of 2,555 mm. It will be offered with three engines, including an unspecified 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol, a 138 hp 1.4-liter turbo petrol mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 1.7-liter diesel with 129 hp and 300 Nm of torque.

Both the 1.7-liter diesel and the 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine will also be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission and the option of all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, all engines with manual transmission will be fitted with Start/Stop functionality.

Standard features include ABS with EBD, traction control, hill climb assist, electronic stability control, six airbags and the MyLink system.

The Chevrolet Trax will go on sale before the end of 2012 and will compete with compact SUVs such as the VW Tiguan, BMW X1 or the Mazda CX-5.
