Chevrolet has previously mentioned that their COPO Camaro, which was revealed in concept form at last year's SEMA Show in Vegas, is capable of doing a quarter-mile in less than 9 seconds. And now, the North American carmaker give proof by releasing a video which shows a COPO Camaro running an 8.88-second quarter-mile on a track somewhere in the US.
The car is powered by a 327 cu in 5.3-liter V8 engine along with a 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger. The unit is mated to a Powerglide automatic gearbox that was specially developed for drag racing.
As a refresher, COPO stands for Central Office Production Order and was Chevrolet’s special-order system in used by dealers to build high-performance models in the 1960s.
