Fiat has recently unveiled the 2013 500 Turbo at the Concorso Italiano in Monterey, California.
Basically the halfway point between the standard 500 and the 500 Abarth, the Turbo version is distinguished by an aggressive front fascia with larger air vents, blacked out head- and tail-lamps, revised side skirts and 16-inch aluminum wheels. There's also black-accented rear diffuser, a liftgate-mounted spoiler and a sports exhaust system.
The interior comes with sport seats, leather-wrapped shift knob, a revised steering wheel with silver stitching and an optional Beats by Dr. Dre audio system with six premium speakers, a subwoofer and an eight-channel 368-watt amplifier.
Power comes from a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine with 135 hp and 203 Nm of torque - 34 hp and 70 Nm more than the standard model. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission which allows "quick acceleration and [a] faster top speed."
To improve handling, the Italian carmaker installed a sport-tuned suspension and high-performance brakes with semi-metallic brake linings at all four corners.
The 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo will go on sale in the United States this fall. Pricing starts at $19,500, excluding a $700 destination charge.
