2012 Honda Civic Review

2012-Honda-Civic

First introduced in July 1972, the Civic is Honda’s best-selling model and is currently ranked as one of the world’s best-selling cars. It was originally a compact model and is located in the midsize segment. However, after going through several generations, the Civic has become larger.

For the 2012 model, this is the ninth-generation Civic, which is described as "energetic, sleek and aerodynamic". It was introduced at the 2011 North American International Auto Show. Then, the final production version went on sale in the U.S. on April 20, 2011.

Despite receiving some restrained feedbacks from customers, but clearly, the new Civic has received many modifications and new features from the Japanese carmaker.

Specs

Available in coupe and sedan styles, the 2012 Civic is offered with three trim levels, DX, LX and EX. There's also a performance-oriented Si version, hybrid and high-efficiency HF variants.

Under the hood, four engines are available. The base version is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol with 140 hp. The HF (High Efficiency) model also uses the 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine but aerodynamic tweaks. The Civic Hybrid features a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine and a small electric motor. Lastly, the Civic Si uses a 2.4-liter engine with 200 hp.

All models are linked with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. However, the 1.8-liter petrol can be mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox.

Exterior

Compared to the old Civic, the 2012 version is distinguished by a more angular fascia, mesh grille, and a tapered rear roofline that flows smoothly into the trunk. The new car is 4, 525 mm long, 1,755 mm wide and 1,450 height with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, which has decreased roughly 30 mm on both body styles.

Interior

Inside the car, Honda has tried to make the vehicle as modern as possible. Front seats are a little short and flat, but backseat accommodations are among the better ones. Meanwhile, the cabin is equipped with leading technology such as intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID), the Eco Assist technology that helps achieve a more efficient vehicle operation (not on Si models), Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, USB Audio Interface and Steering Wheel-Mounted Controls.

Safety Features

The car is now more secure than the previous generation. All models come with standard features like ABS (Anti-Lock Brake Systems), VSA (Vehicle Stability Assistance), EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure, Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System, Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Prices

With a starting price of just $15,605 for the base version, the Civic remains very affordable.
