New details are starting to emerge about the second-generation BMW X1 which will likely come in 2015.
According to Autocar, the crossover will use the new front-drive UKL platform which will be shared with future MINIs and the 2013 1-Series GT. The switch is aimed at providing the model with added packaging benefits, lower production costs and free up more interior space thanks a transversely-mounted four-cylinder engine lineup.
Insiders also indicate that the X1 successor will share key elements, including many of its driveline combinations, with the new-generation MINI Countryman, so expect a Haldex all-wheel drive system to be optional.
