McLaren has officially released the first official images and details of the MP4-12C Spider.

According to the British carmaker, the open top version has a fabulous roof system which only takes 17 seconds to go up and down and can be operated while on the move up at speeds up to 30 km/h. The supercar also gets an electronically operated rear windscreen which acts as a wind deflector. This can be raised or lowered when the roof is raised to allow extra engine noise to enter the cabin.

Like the Coupe, the convertible is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 625 hp. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission with shift paddles located behind the steering wheel, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds (a time identical to the Coupe) and hit a top speed of a top speed of 329 km/h. McLaren says that the model burns an average of 11.7-liter of fuel every 100 km, while CO2 emissions of 270 g/km.

The McLaren MP4-12C Spider has a starting price of £195,500 with first deliveries to customers are planned for November this year. The configurator of the car can be accessed at www.configure.mclaren.com.
