In a recent interview, Audi Chief Executive, Rupert Stadler has revealed that the brand is planning to overtake BMW as the world’s largest luxury carmaker by 2020.
Speaking with Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Stadler said "By 2020 at the latest. It is not about overtaking BMW tomorrow or the day after, but to seize and secure the top position". He had previously set a target of making Audi the world’s top premium auto manufacturer by 2015.
He also said sales of the company in the first 6 months of the year, which is scheduled to release on July 31, is very positive. "But we, too, feel that the road is getting bumpier," he cautioned.
Sales Chief Peter Schwarzenbauer added "The current order intake proves that for the first half of the year, we will exceed our expectations in all regions".
The German carmaker has refrained from setting any goals for 2012 deliveries and merely said it wants to outpace the global passenger-car market, which it expects to grow around 4% this year.
