Audi has just revealed the first details, images and videos of the 2013 R8, ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
According to the German carmaker, the sports car has a modified front fascia with full-LED headlights, a six-point grille and redesigned intakes. There's also a big carbon rear diffuser, air outlets with three slats on each corner and two new round tailpipes on all engine versions. The facelift model rides on new 18-inch wheels with tires sized 235/40 front and 285/35 rear for the base car, or 19-inch with tires 235/35 and 295/30 for the V10.
One of the more striking updates is the new 7-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission which replaces the 6-speed automated manual R tronic. The more modern transmission, which features two multi-plate clutches that serve two mutually independent sub-transmissions allowing minimal delay between gear changes, improves performance and reduces fuel consumption and emissions - by up to 22 g/km in fact. It gives a 0-100 km/h acceleration boost of around 0.3 seconds over the standard 6-speed manual option.
The 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine, which is linked with the 7-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission as standard, produces 424 hp and 430 Nm of torque. With the optional S Tronic transmission, the coupe can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds while the Spyder is 4.6 seconds. Both variants hit a top speed of 302 km/h.
The 5.2-liter FSI V10 engine is available in two outputs. The base model develops 518 hp and 530 Nm of torque, allowing the car to run from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 313 km/h. Meanwhile the new range topping "Plus" version creates 542 hp and 540 Nm of torque, allowing it to rocket from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 317 km/h.
In terms of features, the R8 V10 plus comes with the navigation system plus, bucket seats with prominent side sections for better lateral support and the Bang & Olufsen Sound System as standard. Other options include a high-beam assistant, a stowage package, various travel case sets, a cell phone preparation, with belt microphone and voice control, and the parking system plus with reversing camera.
The 2013 Audi R8 will arrive in European dealerships before the end of the year. The base models is priced from €113,500 for the coupe and €124,800 for the Spyder, while the respective V10 versions will cost €154,600 and €165,900. Lastly, the range topping R8 V10 Plus will set you back €173,200.
