Volvo has recently sent a message of challenge to the BMW M3, Lexus IS F and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG by revealing the S60 Polestar Performance Concept at the Gothenburg City Race in Sweden.

With sportier and more aggressive outside, the concept really has strong impression with bright blue characteristic color of the Polestar's trademark and a grille with the Polestar emblem. Meanwhile, the chassis has some notable changes, increased by 20 mm wide at the front and 40 mm at the rear, while the height was lowered 30 mm. In addition, the car also features new bumpers with a splitter at the front and carbon-fiber diffuser at the rear, a Ferrita 3.5-inch stainless steel exhaust system and 19-inch light alloy wheels  in 265/30 R19 tires.

Interior changes are limited, but the cabin has a set of Polestar seats, Alcantara on all functional areas such as the steering wheel, gear knob and seats along with a slightly lowered dashboard for optimised gear-lever ergonomics.

Under the bonnet, the sedan is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine with 508 hp at 6,500 rpm and 575 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via a reinforced close ratio manual 6-speed gear box and the Haldex Gen4 XWD system, allowing the 1,640 kg model to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 186 mph.

"Polestar’s heart and soul is motorsport and our main focus is to deliver the absolute best results for Volvo on the track. But over the years we have also seen a significant increase in demand for Volvo performance cars and parts and naturally we want to respond to this", said Polestar founder Christian Dahl.

The production-bound version will likely be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next fall.
