Last month, BMW's North American President has confirmed the 2014 M3 will be powered by an inline-six cylinder engine. And now, according to a new report from BimmerToday, the powerplant under the bonnet is a new 3.2-liter unit which is heavily influenced by the current M3 engine, the 4.0-liter V8.
It could be turbocharged and is rated at 450 hp. There's also a performance package which allows the engine to produce 480 hp and hit a top speed of 300 km/h.
The production version of the 2014 BMW M3 will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
