In May, the top seven carmakers have posted double-digit sales gains. Toyota dominated the sales landscape last month, with sales up nearly 90%. Meanwhile, Honda, Nissan and Chrysler clocked sales gains beyond 20%.
In the top 10 list, the Ford F-Series continues its reign at the top with sales reaching 54,836 units. Chrysler's Ram pickup truck, which hasn't been a top 10 since February, returned to the list, with sales reaching 26,040 units.
Gas prices, which fell nearly 20 cents per gallon in May, have boosted sales for all pickups. Combined sales for the Ram, Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra increased 26.5% in May and 14.1% for the year.
In the family car segment, the Honda Accord (29,737 units) and the Ford Fusion (26,857 units) have gained in popularity despite having redesigns in the wings. Meanwhile, despite an uptick in incentives, the Nissan Altima still does not appear in the top 10 for the second month in a row.
