Used Volkswagen

The Volkswagen Golf is Volkswagen’s best selling model and is currently ranked as the world’s 3rd best selling model. First produced in 1974, it was Volkswagen’s offering as a replacement to the Beetle.

The first Golf came in the form of the small family car the Golf MK1. It was an instant favourite offering reliability, comfort and affordability. It offered the public something new and modern. What particularly excited the car enthusiasts was it’s alter-ego the Golf GTI. This hot-hatch, lightweight compact car set a standard that made driving fun and fast. It was quite a sensation at the time. In 4 months a million of these cars were manufactured, with its 110bhp engine going on to inspire many more compact sports cars.

Golf went on to produce an additional 5 generations of Golf and Golf GTI, each more sleek and sophisticated than the last, each becoming a cult classic of it generation.

Those people looking to purchase a second-hand Volkswagen will not be disappointed with any of the Golf models. For a little more panache the Golf GTI has that added extra street cred with those in the know.

The original Golf MK1’s handling is still agile and responsive, the MK2 is wider and lower than the original reportedly taking corners with more ease. As Golf moved onto the MK3, safety issues were becoming increasingly discussed in the automotive world resulting in Golf veering away from the actual driving qualities and focussing on the safety aspects. This did not bode well with car enthusiasts but this model is still a worthy member of the Golf series. The MK4 took note of the critics, improving the handling and also producing a selection of the cars with a more powerful engine. The MK5 was a popular model with its spacious interior, comfort and reliability. The latest in the series is the MK6. Large investment was has been put into this, making it more efficient but still encompassing the sleekness that embodies the image of the Golf.

Golf engines are built to last if taken care of correctly and those car enthusiasts will find that the possible problems, however costly, are sometimes worth it for the end result. Statistics speak for themselves, Volkswagen buyers choose the Golf, however if you can not afford the golf there it does have a little brother, the Polo which is the same but just a little smaller, visit motors.co.uk to have a look.
