Smart has confirmed plans to build a new all-electric scooter which was previewed by the escooter concept at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
According to German carmaker, the production model will be "developed and refined further" before it goes on sale in 2014.
In a statement, Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said "The decision in favor of the escooter has been made. With this step, we are adding a further important component to our smart mobility concept for urban mobility in the future."
As a small reminder, the escooter concept is powered by a 4 kW electric wheel hub motor in the rear wheel, allowing it to travel up to 100 km and hit a top speed of 45 km/h.
