MINI has recently announced their John Cooper Works (JCW) lineup will get a new engine.

According to the British carmaker, the all-new 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine will help their JCW lineup to achieve a better fuel economy and CO2 emissions. In order to get these improved figures, the engine features an improved aluminum block, a light crankshaft and reinforced pistons, as well as brake energy regeneration system, a start-stop system and sodium-filled exhaust valves.

While the JCW Countryman produces 218 PS (160 kW / 215 hp) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque, the JCW Cooper, JCW Cooper Convertible, Clubman, Coupe and Roadster develop 211 hp at 6,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque between 1,850 and 5,600 rpm.

In addition, all JCW models will be available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission, which comes with a paddle shift function.
