BMW becomes this year's most valuable automotive brand

BMW Z4

According to the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list released by market research company Millward Brown, BMW is this year's most valuable automotive brand.

Accordingly, the German carmaker has overtook Toyota ($21.8 billion) in the charts (again) with an estimated worth of $24.6 billion. Rounding out the top three, Mercedes has an estimated value of $16.1 billion, followed by Honda with $12.65-million, with Nissan, Volkswagen, Ford, Audi, Hyundai and Lexus, finishing off the top 10 list.

Speaking with Automotive News, Peter Walshe, Millward Brown global brand director, said "As one of the great brands in the world, BMW has been absolutely consistent in the long-term regarding what is meaningfully different about their brand, in highly competitive market places."

He added that Toyota retained its position as one of the world's best brands, but lost its top place in the ranking in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that affected all Japanese carmakers last year.
