In a recent interview, Toyota's lead developer Tetsuya Tada has confirmed the GT 86 will be offered as a convertible later down the line.
Speaking with German car magazine Autobild, Tada said "The GT 86 was designed from the outset to be built as a convertible". However, the Japanese carmaker did not say when the roadster would be launched.
Meanwhile, there is no information if the convertible will be offered for the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S.
As a reminder, the rear-wheel-drive GT 86 feature a 2.0-liter boxer engine with 200 PS (147 kW / 197 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque at 6,600 rpm, mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
