Hyundai has announced plans to present the Veloster Turbo at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
Like the North American version, the European model is powered by a 1.6-liter T-GDI four-cylinder engine featuring a high-compression, twin-scroll turbocharger and direct-injection technology. But the South Korea carmaker says that instead of the 201 hp and 264 Nm the car gets in America, it will only have 183 hp and 270 Nm in Geneva.
President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, Tony Whitehorn, explains “UK drivers tend to prefer more torque from a lower engine speed, so our European engineers have specified a set-up that still provides a substantial increase in power - up from 140 PS to 186 PS - while also delivering the desired low-end torque. The resulting package is very competitive against the performance of competitors such as VW Scirocco and Vauxhall Astra.”
More details will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow.
