Nissan has just revealed the Hi-Cross Concept at 2012 Geneva Motor Show today.

According to the Japanese carmaker, the model actually previews not only the new X-trail SUV, but also described as a preview for a possible new design direction that will extend to the Juke, Qashqai and Murano.

“Although this is purely a concept car, exploring potential ideas for the future, there is no ambiguity about its purpose. It is a high-riding crossover, hence its name: Hi-Cross Concept. But the name does more than refer to its shape. The ‘Hi’ refers equally to the idea of extended value, to the levels of innovation found in the drivetrain and, of course, to the excitement promised from behind the wheel”, said Francois Bancon, Deputy Division General Manager of Product Strategy and Product Planning Division.

The Hi-Cross Concept is powered by a hybrid powertrain which uses a 2.0-liter direct injection petrol engine and a battery powered electric motor, mated to a specially designed CVT gearbox. The powertrain provides performance of a 2.5-liter engine, while offering better fuel consumption.
