According to a statement from Porsche, their new compact SUV, previously known as the Cajun, will be named the Macan, which supposedly means tiger in Indonesian.
The German carmaker says that the Macan is expected to follow the success of the Cayenne in recent years and will also enter production in Leipzig next year.
“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche”, said Bernhard Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”
Porsche expect a lot from the new Macan, since they’ve invested €500 million in its German facility in order to develop this model, one of the biggest building projects in Porsche's history, and more than 1,000 new jobs.
