In a recent interview, Klaus Draeger, BMW's head of research and development, revealed the next-generation 7-Series will use carbonfibre in its construction.
Speaking with Autocar, Draeger said the new 7-series’ structure would likely feature a mix of carbon fiber, aluminum and steel, with the first probably set to be used for parts such as the roof, hood and trunk lid.
Accordingly, the 2015 7-Series will be the first BMW to feature the lightweight material. These changes could enable the new model to be significantly lighter than the current model.
