2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI unveiled

Volkswagen has announced plans to reveal the 2013 Beetle TDI at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show next week.

Set to go on sale this summer, the TDI model is distinguished by special badging, additional chrome trim and unique 17-inch aluminum wheels. Customers can choose from three trim levels, TDI, TDI with Sunroof, and TDI with Sunroof, Sound, and Navigation.

The interior changes are limited, but now there's a supplementary instrument pod with a stopwatch and oil temperature / turbo boost gauges. Options include a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with audio controls, a Fender audio system and GPS navigation.

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 140 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine can be connected to a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch transmission, allowing the model to return an estimated 29 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.
