2012 Volvo V40 officially revealed


After numerous leaked images, Volvo has officially revealed the all-new V40, ahead of its official debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show on March 6.

According to the Swedish carmaker, the hatchback measures 4,369 mm (172 inches) long, 2,041 mm (80.3 inches) wide and 1,445 mm (56.9 inches) tall, with a 2,647mm (104.2 inches) wheelbase.

Under the hood, the V40 will be available with the company’s very first diesel engine which boasts CO2 emissions of 94g/km, along with a number of other engines available at its launch, including a turbocharged T5 petrol engine which develops 254 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 360 Nm of peak torque from 1,800 rpm to 5,400rppm, allowing the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.

All the engine versions will feature start-stop technology and braking energy regeneration and can be mated with manual or automatic transmission systems.

Some of the safety features will include Volvo's Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake and a collision avoidance system, which can stop the vehicle when traveling at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph).

The 2012 Volvo V40 will be produced at the company's plant in Ghent, Belgium in May, 2012. The company has targeted 90,000 annual sales, out of which 85 percent to customers in Europe.
