After being teased just a few days ago, DC Design has revealed India’s first supercar, the Avanti, at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo.
According to the Indian design company, the Avanti is a reference to the Studbaker Avanti from Tintin comics and it will be manufactured at the company’s Talegaon plant in Pune.
The DC Design Avanti will initially be available with a Ford 4-cylinder turbo engine with 265 hp and then followed by a Honda V6 making 400 hp - this is a modest figures indeed for a supercar. It is mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission, allowing the 1,560 kg car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than seven seconds.
The Avanti is an affordable supercar priced at 30 lakh rupees ($56,277 / €43,500). DC Design plans to produce 200 units annually, approximately one car every two days. Then, the production will be increased gradually up to 2,000 units every year.
