Volkswagen to build three-row crossover for the U.S.

According to a report from Car&Driver magazine, Volkswagen plans to launch a three-row SUV which will compete with the Honda Pilot.

The magazine also confirmed the new model will be produced and it will be built at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant in Tennessee or a company facility in Mexico. The three-row crossover will use the Passat platform as a starting point so it will be big enough to satisfy the tastes of American consumers.

The new three-row SUV will be a vital cog in VW’s objective to sell 800,000 vehicles in the U.S. by 2018. The standard engine will most likely be the 3.6-liter V6, with a 3.0-liter diesel V6 could be optional.

The VW crossover will start around $30,000.
