Dodge CEO Reid Biglund has recently announced the Caliber replacement will be unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January.
He also said the model will not be called the Hornet, but the official name could be announced in a couple of weeks.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Biglund said "I've never been more excited about a new car than I am about the new compact. It fills a significant hole in the product portfolio."
Designed by Fiat SpA, the all-new compact Dodge is expected to be equipped a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine that develops 101 hp to 173 hp.
