After the latter company’s sales continued to disappoint,
Daimler has reportedly decided to phase out Maybach.
It seems that Mercedes wants to focus greater attention on
its own brand. To be more specific, the company will reportedly offer a new
S600 Pullman, which will have more potential to succeed in the luxury segment
against competition from the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce than Maybach.
"We’ve come to the conclusion that it is better to cut
our losses with Maybach than to continue into an uncertain future with a brand
that has failed to live up to original sales expectations" said the
insider.
If everything as planned, the last Maybachs will be built in
early 2013.
