Honda to invest $84 million to expand production

Honda has announced that it will invest $84 million and hire 100 new full-time associates to expand production of engines and light trucks at its assembly factory in Lincoln, Alabama (USA).

With today’s announcement, Honda’s annual production capacity will increase by 300,000 units to 340,000 vehicles and engines by 2013. The Alabama factory is currently producing the Pilot, Ridgeline pickups and Odyssey minivans. It also makes the six-cylinder engines.

The demand for new trucks and cars increased 10% this 2011 through October. Most analysts and companies are estimating total sales in the U.S. to be in the range of 12.5 million to 13 million units in 2011.

In a related statement, Honda mentioned that it will operate normal production shifts at plants in Canada and the United States in December to ensure the number of cars sold.
