2012 Chevrolet Cobalt launched


Chevrolet has officially unveiled the 2012 Cobalt in production form, which is expected to go on sale in 40 countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America.

The production model measures 4,479 mm long, 1,735 mm wide and 1,514 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2.620 mm. The new Cobalt has a prominent grille, vertical taillights and slightly odd proportions. Inside, the cabin features a clean design with a sporty steering wheel, 18 storage compartments and a generous boot space of 563-liter.

Brazil is the first country to receive the new Chevrolet Cobalt. Here, the new compact sedan can be powered by a 1.4-liter engine with 97 hp when running on petrol or 102 hp when running on ethanol, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 11.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 170 km/h.

In other markets, a variety of 4-cylinder engines will be available with displacements ranging from 1.3- to 1.8-liter.

Pricing starts from R$39,980 or about US$23,000 in Brazil.
