Mercedes-Benz Drops V12 SL-Class models

Mercedes has quietly dropped the SL65 AMG and SL600. The move is part of the lead up for the introduction of the redesigned 2013 Mercedes SL-Class in the latter half of 2012.

For nostalgia's sake, the SL65 AMG is powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine produced 612 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. While the SL600 is equipped by a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-12 engine with 510 hp and 828 Nm of torque.

It remains unclear if Mercedes will be phasing out its V12 models completely in favor of more fuel efficient V8 units, but previous reports have suggested that possibility. It's just speculation at this point.
