Chevrolet Beat EV concept

Today, GM India has unveiled the Beat Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) concept in New Delhi.

Built to celebrate World Environment Day and is brought to India to study the feasibility of electric vehicles in major metros. The model features a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery that sends power to a 60 hp electric motor. This setup enables the car to travel approximately 130 km on a single charge. When the battery is depleted, it can be fully recharged in less than eight hours using a 240V outlet.

Maybe, the model isn't destined for production, because lithium-ion batteries are way too expensive for the Indian buyer. However, engineers will evaluate the prototype to help identify ways to make EV technology more affordable.

Will the hot and dusty conditions along with the poorly laid roads prove as an obstacle for the Beat EV? Only time will tell.
