Currently, the large sedan segment in China, Volkswagen has had a representative of the Phaeton. However, compared to the Audi A8, Volkswagen Phaeton was not a success. Therefore, Volkswagen want to develop a new large sedan to increase their competitiveness.
Besides plans to develop a large sedan, Volkswagen and Shanghai Auto also signed agreements about the latest MQB platform chassis of Volkswagen. Under the plan, the MQB chassis will be put into production in China in 2013 and became the foundation for developing three new models - Shanghai-Volkswagen brand.
