Honda Will Produce Electric Vehicles in China from 2012

April 19, at the Shanghai Auto Show, Chairman and CEO of Honda Takanobu Ito said that Honda aims to produce electric vehicles in China in early 2012. According to Takanobu Ito, Honda has achieved important agreement with the Guangzhou City and Guangzhou Automobile Group to conduct the test electric vehicles.

Related to hybrid vehicles, he reiterated that the Civic Hybrid have been sold in the Chinese market and Honda will export the Insight, Fit and CR-Z hybrid from Japan to China next year.


In a separate incident, officials of Honda said the company will move assembly lines of the Fit Shuttle subcompact at the Saitama factory in Saitama province to the Suzuka factory in Mie province and continue production of this model in May after the launch of the Fit Shuttle postponed due to earthquake with tsunami on March 11 in Japan. The reason for this is due to Saitama was without electricity.
