2012 Kia K2 for the Chinese market

At first glance, some people might mistake with the Optima. However, in reality, this is Kia K2, a small sedan developed specifically for the Chinese market, first debut at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show.

Developed based on the same platform as the new Kia Rio, Kia K2 is designed for the Chinese market. Under the plan, Kia K2 will start up production lines in factories located in Jiangsu Province, China in June. Two months later, a 5-door hatchback version will go into production.

“We are confident that this all-new model for China will provide the momentum needed for Kia not only to remain as one of China’s fastest growing automotive brands but also to become a top 10 automaker in the local market in terms of quality and customer satisfaction,” Hyoung-Keun Lee, Vice Chairman of Kia Motors said.

When present in the Chinese market, Kia K2 will be divided into six versions and will be offered with a 1.4-liter or 1.6-liter gamma gasoline engine mated to a automatic or manual gearbox.

Beside, the Kia K2 will make its stateside debut as the Kia Rio sedan at the 2011 New York Auto Show.
