Toyota May Suspend Production in North America


According to the latest report, Toyota is preparing for the temporary closure a few or all plants in North America due to lack of spare parts for production.

Currently, Toyota had to suspend production in Japan and cut overtime shifts of plants in the U.S., Mexico and Canada due to lack of spare parts, the consequences of the earthquake in Japan almost two weeks ago. According to latest information, Toyota North America has announced for all 13 plants in North America that the lack of spare parts, factories may suspend production or reduced capacity.

Mike Goss, a Toyota spokesman, said: "We expected there will be some interruption in production." He said, although Toyota has restored partial production of spare parts in Japan from March 17, but spare parts at the factory was able to work again.

Mr. Goss acknowledged that production in the U.S. may pause, partly or wholly due to lack of spare parts. However, "it is too early to predict where and how long the cessation of production in North America will take place," Toyota said.

All of the Toyota assembly plant in Japan has stopped operations on March 11 and lasted at least until March 26.
