"Demand for the Prius remains very strong as consumers continue to opt for hybrid vehicles" said Yukio Kogoshi, spokesman for the Association of Japanese carmaker.
In the first six months in 2010, Toyota sold 170,426 Prius, increase 230% over the same period last year.
Currently, Toyota has begun testing the Plug-in Hybrid Prius in Europe and America. Similar to the 3rd generation Prius, the Plug-In is equipped with lithium-ion battery, can be recharged from a standard 240V electricity supply.
